Overview
MediaWiki is the engine behind Wikipedia, the behemoth website with millions of articles written by millions of users and translated into dozens of languages. Scale, internationalization, and flexibility have turned MediaWiki into one of the most popular open source wiki applications of all time. MediaWiki is also frequently the first choice for organizations who wish to bring the power of transparency and collaboration into their businesses to publish technical documentation, create knowledge bases, and build intranets.
Written in PHP, MediaWiki has over 900 settings and can be customized with over 2,200 extensions. With its lightweight, extensible markup, users can quickly learn to write rich, organized content with internal references, external links, and embedded multimedia.

Warning! Very insecure, you may lose everything
I got hacked two times and lost 6 months of work. Hard to believe they offer thar publicly for money. Do NOT use!
Set and forget
I have been running this for two years now. Adding plug-ins were not too hard either. Other than paying the bill, it's basically maintenance free. Just remember to backup your data!
Goes nowhere but circles, no good
I tried to setup and use this. It goes no where but around in circles. I wouldn't try anything from this company. If there is anyone from Bitnami reading this, I am willing to try again if you will help me through it.
Very streamlined
piece of cake to install, even compared to a few years ago, instructions are laid out in a very manageable fashion, even for a self taught newbie like myself. Only had trouble with virtual hosts but nothing too tricky. love it!
Easy to setup and customize
I was concerned that a prepackaged MediaWiki environment wouldn't give me the flexibility to make major customizations and extend with the Semantic MediaWiki Bundle. It was a piece of cake to setup and install SMW in about 30 minutes. Up and running great.
